![]() You may wonder why a Simulator is required, if you have a real VHF radio on your boat. It can be used for generic training, not just to teach operation of the specific radio set. The particular radio chosen for this Simulator is a faithful model of the real equipment, which is one of the most popular sets on the market, Standard Horizon GX1500. You also have a simulated remote radio, as described below, and a GPS Simulator. At launch, you have a main VHF radio set with all its major functions operating exactly as a real radio. The program must be installed to the hard drive of the computer and is then launched from its desktop icon when required. The VHF DSC Radio Simulator is software, for PC or Apple Mac, supplied on a CD. The Simulator can send or receive every type of Digital Selective Calling alert, using a "remote station" control panel to monitor outgoing alerts and generate incoming alerts. ![]() Class-D is the GMDSS specification for small-craft use, and excludes Distress Acknowledgement or Distress Relay functions. We use Zoom for this training as it is used extensively within the radio industry to record programmes. To take part, students will need to have access to Zoom. In June we were the official radio partners of the inaugural Commonwealth Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit, providing live and recorded coverage of the entire event held over two days. Since the start of this academic year we have broadcast programmes around the student elections, Lunchtime Dialogues, and a special series of employability programmes were produced as part of the institute’s Get Ahead initiative. For the ten days of the festival we produced six hours of live programming each day, winning the confidence and praise of festival organisers and participants. ![]() In September we were granted a short-term FM license from Ofcom to broadcast daily coverage around Bloomsbury Festival. Throughout the past year, Bloomsbury Radio has proven a vital source of communication and entertainment for you, our students, as well as the wider community of Bloomsbury, Kings Cross and Fitzrovia.ĭuring the national lockdown, the station broadcast a weekly update show, keeping students and staff informed of developments within the Institute. ![]() Through this comprehensive and certified training programme we want to make sure that all station volunteers are equipped and confident to take on the challenge of expanding the radio station’s reach, both within and beyond Bloomsbury Institute. The training will start from Tuesday 7 September for five weeks, and at the end of the sessions you’ll be trained to professional radio standards. In September we will be offering further opportunities to train as a Bloomsbury Radio volunteer. ![]() This has been largely due to the excellent volunteers who trained with us and used the skills they developed to make programmes. In early 2020 we launched Bloomsbury Radio.ĭespite the pandemic and lockdowns, we have grown the station and delivered an extensive range of programming over the last 18 months. ![]()
